The Gamble pays off as LPS go Day Trippin’

Apologies all for the delay in getting a report for last Saturday’s Mid-Lance done, but the results have been, shall we say, a little ropey.

 

Anyways I think they are mostly there now, although Mark Hudsons 1500m time will do more than just raise eyebrows.

20+ intrepid souls assembled in the Edge Hill car park at stupid o’clock for the migration to nearly Scotland.

 

First up was Mar-Bel Casey for whom Carlisle is something of a second home. Her 42m win in the hammer was her second best ever. Worth pointing out at this stage that conditions were a smidge breezy during the day. She followed it up with a win in the U15 girls discus and a second in the shot.

It was good to see so many of our youngsters filling their day with the maximum three events.

 

Under 13 Jessica Gamble had a triple win in the 100m, 200m and long jump. On the male side of the fence under 13 Saul Taylor-Bromley and Jack Clancy also covered 6 events between them hauling in 34 points.

 

Moving up an age group to the under 15’s, we find Millie Oliver, Gaby Taylor and Poppy Abraham covering nine events and raking in 31 points. William Roberts kept the boys end up with another three events, winning two of them.

 

Izzy Grayson made her debut for the club as possibly the youngest U17 in the league (the joys of an August birthday) winning the hammer and getting runner-up in the shot.

 

For the U17 boys the famous solicitors Henry, Berry & Proctor dominated the track with 28 points including three wins boosting the total further with good points from the long jump.

Charlie Climpson scored a double victory in the U17 discus & javelin. There are unconfirmed reports of some mild profanity from an official after he foot-faulted what would’ve been a big PB in the latter, but this is nothing more than mere gossip.

 

Now time to move up to the seniors, mums & dads section (the club has substantial parent power these days !). Pride of place has to go to Mark Hudson who, a few years into the veteran ranks, ran a spectacular 4:51.5 min to win the metric mile (he is far too honest to lay claim to this and has offered to pay for an eyetest for the timekeeper in question. We think it’s actually five mins 51.5 secs.)

 

Perennial winning machine Anna Peers had a treble win in the hammer, discus & shot in miserable conditions; this girl has a pathological hatred of rain, a major handicap living in Chorley.

Iain Wilkinson also trebled up in the shot, discus & javelin, winning the latter.

Laura Purdy added to the well-known concept of ladies multi-tasking as she mixed her sprinting and timekeeping with consummate ease.

 

Michael Proctor had an excellent track debut winning the senior mens 3000 in just a touch over 11 minutes while Mrs P (Lisa) won the ladies in 12:40.

Now we come to a remarkable event where LP&S entered a full mums relay squad into the 1500m !

Super-mums Tracy (Berry), Lisa (Proctor), Kate (Clansey) and Sharon (Roberts) were 1,2,3 & 4th ! A fabulous sight !

 

The highlight of all this was, however, its totality in that LP&S won both the mens and ladies matches and by no small margin. There was a real team spirit on the coach up there. Our hosts, Carlisle Aspatria put on a really good gig that was immensely enjoyable, despite the best efforts of the weather to dampen spirits, and appreciated the efforts the club made to attend in numbers.

 

The final bonus is that the club is making good friends around the region by supporting these events and that can only be to the benefit of us all in the long run.
