Kiran Baliyan won India's first athletics medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games, earning a bronze in the women's shot put event. Baliyan threw the iron ball 17.36m in her third attempt, which was her best of the day. She holds a season's and personal best of 17.92m, achieved during the Indian Grand Prix 5 in Chandigarh where she finished second.
