Morning Briefing: A’s Replace Bob Melvin With Mark Kotsay
Good morning, Mets fans!
The Athletics promoted third base coach Mark Kotsay to manager on Monday, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. Kotsay takes over for Bob Melvin, after he left to become manager with the Padres.
Kotsay is a former major leaguer, playing his 17-year career with seven different clubs, including Oakland for four seasons.

David Blitzer, part-owner of the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and the NHL’s New Jeresy Devils, is acquiring a significant minority stake in the Cleveland Guardians, per Sportico. Blitzer was looking to purchase the Mets from the Wilpon family along with Josh Harris before being outbid by Steve Cohen last year.
The Red Sox have added Luis Ortiz and Ben Rosenthal to their 2022 coaching staff. Ortiz has been hired as Boston’s assistant hitting coach/interpreter and Rosenthal as another assistant hitting coach.
San Diego has also announced its 2022 coaching staff, according to Dennis Lin of The Athletic. Bryan Price has joined the Padres as a senior advisor to the major-league coaching staff with Pete Summerville returning as a coaching and game planning assistant.
