Sorry to hear it and good luck to our neighbors down the road

Duke and Elon will have to play another day: someone in the Phoenix program has tested positive for Covid-19.

This is Elon Athletics Director Dave Blake from the official Elon site: ”As we have said since the onset of COVID, the safety of our student-athletes is paramount and we will follow the guidance of our medical staff in making these decisions. We will continue to monitor the situation and make arrangements that will return our team to practice and competition when it is safe to do so.”

They’re also putting off games with Mercer, Howard and North Carolina. Duke-Elon was scheduled for this Sunday.

We hate to see Elon have to deal with this, first for the obvious reasons and second because we were looking forward to Mike Schrage’s return to Cameron. And not that it’s a huge deal, but just worth mentioning: Dan Dakich’s kid Andrew is on Schrage’s staff.

No word yet on when or if the game will be made up.
