Pomphrey 5k #3: Avon Mob Match

0 5

The third of the new Pomphrey 5k races saw a slight modification of the course and the re-introduction of the traditional mob match.  Proceeds from this race were to be shared with the Avon Athletic Association and Access Sport, a charity helping enable organisations to integrate disabled people into sport.

This race had the highest turnout to date of 161 with a good representation from local and not so local clubs.  The individual prize winners are attached and the race results available on the Run Britain website at https://www.runbritainrankings.com/results/resultslookup.aspx

The mob match had an Open category for all comers and a category for non-EA clubs that are such a big part of the local running community.

The Open category was won by Bristol & West and it was a close thing between the ‘home clubs of Emersons Green Running Club and Bitton Road Runners for second and third with Emersons Green taking the honours.

The non-EA mob match was even closer with only 90 points in 3000 separating the top three.  Staple Hill Runners took the win followed by Stapleton Runners and then North Bristol Running Club.

Big thanks are due to Steve Grant for organising a successful series of races.

When’s the next one?

The Pomphrey 5k now takes a rest until the 24th of September, but the Fast 5000s on Saturday the 27th of July offer the opportunity to run a track 5000m in paced races: https://www.entrycentral.com/Fast5000s

About Access Sport

Since 2011, Access Sport has been supporting community clubs across London, Bristol and beyond to develop their inclusive offer, providing accessible sport and physical activity for disabled young people. The programme has supported over 10,000 young people with disabilities to access inclusive activities, supported 177 community clubs, and upskilled over 800 coaches and volunteers. We work with local community sports clubs and their volunteers to open their doors to ensure that disabled young people can access quality and varied sport and physical activity opportunities alongside their non-disabled peers. We believe disability inclusion should be the norm in sport, rather than the exception.
