[Women's Soccer] KANSAS WESLEYAN STUDENT-ATHLETES HONORED DURING GRADUATION WEEKEND ACTIVITIES

A total of 142 individuals, 118 undergraduate and 24 graduate, that are currently involved in Kansas Wesleyan Athletics or were involved in athletics at some point during their collegiate journey participated in the university's graduate exercises on Saturday on campus. Additionally a number of both current and former student-athletes were recognized at Friday night's Senior Reception and Awards Celebration.

 

Football led the way as the program with the most undergraduates walking across the stage with 34, while the baseball program had 16, the volleyball program had 10, women's soccer had eight, and cheer and dance, men's soccer, women's basketball and softball all had seven each.

 

Several awards were given out at the Senior Reception and Awards Celebration held Friday evening in Muir Gymnasium. 

 

Graduating seniors which were inducted into the Alpha Chi Honor Society included Morgan Beougher (SR/Stockton, Kan.) (volleyball), Torie Cox (SR/Fredonia, Kan.) (women's golf), MacKenzie Fabrizius (SR/Spring Hill, Kan.) (women's golf), Coleman Houk (SR/Lawrence, Kan.) (men's golf), Grant Loewer (SR/Burden, Kan.) (cross country and track), Sydney Mortensen (SR/Wichita, Kan.) (women's basketball) and Shereef Wahba (SR/Atascadero, Calif.) (football).

 

Coleman Houk was named as the Outstanding Accounting Student. Alison Casey (SR/Carlsbad, Calif.) (women's soccer) was named as the Outstanding Business Student. Rodney Bond (JR/Frisco, Texas) (baseball) was named as the Outstanding Marketing Student. All awards were given by the Business and Accounting Department.

 

Morgan Beougher was named as the Outstanding Biology Student.

 

Alleigh Weems (SR/Salina, Kan.) (volleyball) was named as the Outstanding Communication Student of the Year.

 

Grant Loewer was named as the Outstanding Computer Science Student.

 

Kobee McCorkle (SR/Needles, Calif.) was one of two named as Outstanding History Graduates.

 

Calvin Ainsworth (SR/Diana, Texas) (football) and Christian Kornelis (football) were named as Outstanding Physics Students.

 

Shereef Wahba received the Rev. George Taylor Criminal Justice Award.

 

Michelle Barkley (SR/Chino Hills, Calif.) (women's soccer) received the Campbell/Hurd Emergency Management Award.

 

Kirsten Andersen (SR/Clarkston, Mich.) (women's soccer) and Deanna Rowson (SR/St. Augustine, Fla.) (women's soccer) earned Sports and Exercise Science Achievement Awards.

 

Shelby Mann was named as a Spring 2019 Teacher of Promise.

 

Academic All-KCAC awards are given to student-athletes who maintain a 3.333 GPA as defined by the institution, be at least sophomore academic status and letter in their respective sport. Student-athletes from the winter and spring sports in 2019 have not yet been identified for this honor pending final spring grades. Fall Academic All-KCAC honorees include: Brad Coombs (SR/Blackfoot, Idaho) (football), Jacob Griese (SR/Houston, Texas) (football), Kobee McCorkleMitch Persinger (SR/Hugoton, Kan.) (football), Peter Timoti (JR/Yorba Linda, Calif.) (SR/Roscoe, Ill.), Armando Vasquez (SR/El Paso, Texas) (football), Shereef WahbaAndrea Alstatt (SR/Salina, Kan.) (volleyball), Morgan BeougherKortney Cunningham (SR/Almena, Kan.), Peyton Desormiers (SR/Wakeeney, Kan.) (volleyball), Aspen Lungwitz (SR/Wichita, Kan.) (volleyball), Alleigh WeemsKirsten AndersenMichelle BarkleyNissa Inzunza (SR/Colton, Calif.) (women's soccer), Deanna RowsonGrant Loewer, and Michael Sarafin (SR/Peyton, Colo.) (cross country and track).

 

Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes must have at least a 3.5 GPA as defined by the institution, be of junior academic status and have attended the current institution for at least one full academic year as a transfer or two full academic years as a non-transfer. Student-athletes from the spring sports in 2019 have not yet been recognized for this honor. Morgan Beougher was selected to the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District team.

 

Morgan BeougherPeter Timoti and Shereef Wahba were recognized for serving as senior presidential ambassadors.

 

"Our program helps our student-athletes have a focus on graduation day from the time they step on campus for the first time," said vice president and director of athletics Mike Hermann. "I was not surprised to see so many of our student-athletes honored by the faculty as the best in their department. We have some outstanding student-athletes in this graduation class. Most rewarding for me is the significant number of students leaving Kansas Wesleyan with experiences in athletics that have developed leadership skills, time management strategies and the perseverance that will complement their degree and enhance their ability to achieve in the next chapter of their lives. We wish them the best and look forward to welcoming them back to campus often."

 

For the fourth year in a row, a student recruited to Kansas Wesleyan for athletics has been named as class Valedictorian. Morgan Beougher was a four-year member of the volleyball program and is completing her Bachelor of Science in Biology and is graduating Summa Cum Laude.

 

Several student-athletes also received Latin Honors at Commencement.
