MLB trade rumors: Yankees interested in Sonny Gray, Yu Darvish

0

New York has to fill the hole in their rotation, fast.

Now that Michael Pineda has officially gone down for the season with Tommy John surgery, the Yankees are going to need some new power house arms in their rotation. It comes as no surprise that Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports is reporting that New York is interested in adding Rangers’ star Yu Darvish and Athletics’ hurler Sonny Gray.

Both the Rangers and Athletics would be looking for top prospects in exchange for their coveted starters, but so far it looks like the Yankees are keeping their big names like Gleyber Torres and Justus Sheffield. New York still has one of the strongest farm systems in baseball though, so don’t be surprised if a larger crop of less notable players is shipped in exchange for Gray or Darvish, if the latter is made available.

Earlier this week it was reported that the Athletics had named their price for Gray to Cashman and the Yankees, but that exact price or how the Yankees countered is unknown. If the Yankees want to land one of these well tested pitchers, they’re going to have to most fast, they’re not the only team out there with a lot of young players to offer.

Gray may be the more likely of the two options for the Yankees, as the Rangers appear less likely to deal Darvish than they did over the weekend. New York also had some interest in lefty Jaime Garcia before he was dealt from the Braves to the Twins on Monday.
