Victoria Bowmen Meeting Minutes Apr 18, 2024

Attendance:

Greg Birtwistle, Al Wills, Helena Myllyniemi, Andrew Engelhardt, Ellen Vander Hoek, Frank Perry, Vesa Myllyniemi, Brad Barclay, Bruce Somers

1. CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order by the President at 6:30pm

2. CHAIRMAN’S OPENING REMARKS

The President read an Indigenous land acknowledgment and welcomed everyone to the meeting.

3. CORRESPONDENCE

Some ongoing correspondence with Archery BC about the club hosting an upcoming coaching clinic.

4. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING

5. REPORTS

  1. Membership Director: membership is now up to 118
  2. JOP Director: JOP going well, very busy with lots of young archers showing up each week. Approx. 20  kids regularly participating every Sunday with more joining from Thursday and Friday night youth classes. Several JOP members recently won Mailmatch medals, also had several participate in JOP Indoor Championships Apr 7.
  3. Director at Large (Drop In): Monday evening  drop ins at Saanich are full every session with 22 people (max allowed) registering online to shoot. Hoping to increase the number of archers allowed in September as more butts become available.
  4. Treasurer: Had some recent expenses with purchase of new net etc., but Club finances in good shape.  Some funds currently owed from Saanich Commonwealth. Helena inquired about the use of e-transfer for the club bank account to make incoming and outgoing payments easier but this service is not allowed as it is not a personal account.
  5. Webmaster: Website performing well, no issues. Hosting and domain renewal due in June.
  6. Director at Large (Equipment): Some butt stands being repaired, majority  improved with carpeted feet, butt restraints etc.
  7. Director at Large (Range Safety): Thursday night indoor club shoot participation is consistently busy with 25-30 archers. Club needs more RSOs to help out at shoots.
  8. Secretary: Correspondence with BC archery (see CORRESPONDENCE)
  9. Director at Large (Lessons/Tournaments): Mailmatch results to be calculated at end of April. Club members did well at BC Winter Games.
  10. Vice President: South Vancouver Island Rangers will be offering drop in shooting at their outdoor archery range on Wed nights (7:00pm) for Vic Bowmen members for a nominal fee drop in fee.

6. BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES

Some more items from old outdoor range sold: lawnmower, fencing; some older bows to go.

7. NEW BUSINESS

  1. June 1-2 coaching clinic (Instructor of Beginner Archers). Club looking at Possible subsidy for members wishing to take the coaching course.
  2. Club agreed to hold board meetings  quarterly.

8. DISBURSEMENTS FOR APPROVAL
