Club news, tournament results, reminders, and updates

Big cheers to our recent championships winners! On April 3rd, we hosted the Vancouver Island portion of the BC Junior Olympic Program Championships. Close to 200 young archers from across the province took part, and we’re super proud to announce that every one of our Victoria Bowman Juniors who competed won in their category! Please join us in a big club congratulations to Nolan Curtis, Chloe deLeur, Maddox Eliason, Erich Engelhardt, Anna Gao, Kento Leacock, Keira Mansell and Keira Patterson. Well done all! Also, almost all them moved up to another level in the program. We now have about two dozen youngsters in the program – the future looks bright! We also had three of our members compete at the BC Indoor Provincial Championships in Quesnel on April 16 & 17, winning 4 medals between them! More cheers to Sophie Woodcock, Bailey Drinkwalter, and Billy Sanderson, and thanks to Al and Mary Wills for assisting with judging duties.

Volunteers needed for PISE event May 7 and 55+ Games in September On Sat, May 7th we’ll be taking part in the PISE (Pacific Institute for Sports Excellence) Family Sport and Recreation Festival, an event to inspire families to be more active. We’ll be setting up some butts and offering the opportunity for attendees to shoot a few arrows. We could use a few more volunteers to help set up & tear down, run the shoot, and chat with people. This is a great opportunity to promote the sport, and of course our fantastic club. We participated in their last festival and our setup was very popular, with a long line up for the entire event! The event runs 11am-3pm. If you’re able to help out, please contact Andrew or Brad We also need volunteers to help run the archery portion of the 2022 55+ Games September 13–17 at Topaz Park. We’d greatly appreciate your assistance helping to run this event! Bow racks – indoor shooting Please note that there is now a hook installed inside the indoor shooting equipment container to hang the bow racks on. Please ensure the bow racks are hung there when putting the stuff away.

Outdoor shooting We still have not had any luck with finding an outdoor range, however, there is a possibility of using a number of outdoor facilities to set up a couple of ‘shooting days’ for the outdoor season. It would be much like what we have now at indoor shoots, in that we would have to set up butts and take them down afterwards. If there is enough interest, we will continue with the search for something suitable. If you would like to shoot outdoors under such restrictions please contact Al. HOWEVER, in order to take advantage of such facilities, we would have to have a Range Safety Officer present each session, so we also need volunteers who would be willing to be on a roster to supervise the setup/take down and safe practices for the sessions as Helena and Al cannot do them all. So, if you can help, please contact Al. On that note, if you would like to get qualified as a Range Safety Officer, the training is free and all online, and the test is ‘open book’. You’ll find more details, the manual, and a link to the exam on the Archery Canada Website.

Membership cards Please remember to wear your membership card in such a way that it is visible whenever you are shooting! If not, we have to ask you for it, which is a lot of trouble for all. The club has a laminator, so if you would like your card laminated and hole punched, just let Al know. Thanks!
