A grand opener!

0 214

Last Sunday (3rd April) was the day of the Opening Shoot – the first one we have held since April 2019!

The weather was cold, but dry with light winds and occasional sunny spells, making for almost perfect shooting conditions, which were enjoyed by a fabulous turn out of 36 members – one of the biggest Opening Shoots we can remember, and one that meant that we even had to get out some of the tournament bosses from the BOX to make up the numbers!

The number of archers and consequently complicated field arrangements meant that we were a little late getting started, but it was worth the wait to finally be back to shooting together as we used to do pre-Covid.

The rounds available were Albion and a selection of Windsors, meaning that there was a maximum distance to suit everyone, and because this is a handicap shoot, every archer on the field was in with a chance of winning.

By keeping to a single detail, we were able to get through the 9 dozen arrows in good time and were finished shooting by about 1.30, and with some swift adding up and spreadsheet work, the results were available in time to award the trophies and medals before people went home.

A huge thank you to Kevin Molloy who acted as Field Captain and Colin Ellsley who donned his presidents medal and awarded the trophies, as well as everyone who assisted with putting things out and putting them away at the end.
