Coaching at GAC
Delivering the Technical Framework
As some members will be aware, Dave Winter, Tony Fry and I have been running three week technique courses during the last year in the Box. This is in response to membership surveys indicating that members would like coaching to be available. It also coincides with Archery GB developing a Technical Framework for coaches to follow, teaching good technique in a structured way. We have taken this on board and hope to reach as many members as possible.
Each course consists of three sessions, each lasting around 1hr 45 mins, which are spaced out weekly. It is important to attend ALL THREE, as each session builds upon the previous one. It is almost entirely practical in a friendly, supporting environment. The courses have proved to be very popular and 39 members have completed the three sessions, of which, 16 have completed an extra session 4. The groups are small, with a maximum of 6 archers, to make sure everyone gets the maximum benefit. The Box is used for shooting at short distances, mainly 20yds, so it is suitable for all abilities and there is plenty of opportunity to practice.
Other opportunities
The outdoor season is nearly upon us and many archers will be thinking about setting up their bows for best performance. This takes a little time and effort, but is very worthwhile. A coach can help you to learn to complete the correct steps in the right order. This is likely to be on an individual basis.
Coaches can help you to learn how to fletch your own arrows. You may be interested in attending an informal workshop as a group.
You may be interested in trying a different bow style: barebow, longbow or compound. We have coaches who can show you how.
Please register your interest so we can plan accordingly. We have around 250 members to cater for. All our coaches are volunteers and are here to help you. If we know what you want, we can plan to deliver it.
