Spring is sprung! (almost)

This weekend was a busy one for shooting at GAC.

On Saturday, there was the first session of the first outdoor beginners course, with 24 people being introduced to our great sport by the amazing team of instructors and helper. A huge thank you to all those that helped out with the setting up of the field, kitting out of the beginners, tutoring, management of the field and being just generally useful!

At the same time, over 30 GAC Juniors were enjoying their regular Saturday morning session of shooting, coaching and chatting.

The weather was fabulous and continued into the afternoon as a steady flow of people came to enjoy a hint of the summer of shooting to come.

Sunday was not such a nice day, being overcast and with a chilly breeze, but 17 members still turned out to shoot the Opening Shoot.

Despite the tricky wind, there was some good shooting on the Albion and Windsor targets by recurves, longbows, barebows and compound all competing for the Opening Shoot flint arrowhead trophies.

By the time last arrows were shot, the sun was trying to come out and provided a little warmth whilst waiting for the final results. The shoot was scored on a handicap basis, which meant that everyone was shooting for the trophies regardless of their skill, experience or bow style – all that they needed to do was shoot better than they normally do to be n with a chance of victory!

The final winners were:

Gents
Simon de Kretser 1485
Jeff Bayton 1453
Marek Stolarski 1410
Ladies
Katya Sephton 1484
Marian de Kretser 1400
Eleanor 1395
Junior Girl
Laren Levy 1296
