For place 11: Türkiye – Germany U17 88:51 (21:19, 31:11, 24:7, 12:14, Spielbericht/game report)

For place 9: China – Czechia 71:100 (18:30, 20:26, 16:22, 17:22)

Im Spiel um Platz neun hatte Tschechien früh Kontrolle über China und kam in der Zone zu vielen guten Abschlüssen (4:10). China startete einen 5:0-Lauf, verlor danach aber immer mehr die Kontrolle über die spielfreudigen Tschechen (12:21, 7.). Zum Ende des ersten Viertels lagen die Europäer mit 18:30 vorne. Im zweiten Viertel setzte sich die tschechische Dominanz fort und sowohl Jakub Soldan als auch Jakub Simonek drückten dem Spiel ihren Stempel auf (30:51).

Bei den Chinesen viel der Dreier auch im zweiten Durchgang überhaupt nicht während Tschechien die Bretter kontrollierte (46:64, 24.). Auch von der Bank sorgten die Tschechen für konstantes Scoring. Jan Matusik ragte hierbei mit 18 Zählern heraus. Am Ende entschied Tschechien die Partie deutlich für sich und verwies China auf Rang zehn (71:100).

In the game for ninth place, the Czech Republic took control of China early on and made many good finishes inside (4:10). China started a 5:0 run, but then lost more and more control over the playful Czechs (12:21, 7.). At the end of the first quarter, the Europeans were 18:30 ahead. The Czech dominance continued in the second quarter and both Jakub Soldan and Jakub Simonek left their mark on the game (30:51).

The Chinese failed to make many threes in the second period, while the Czech Republic controlled the boards (46:64, 24.). The Czechs also produced consistent scoring from the bench. Jan Matusik stood out with 18 points. In the end, the Czech Republic clearly won the game and relegated China to tenth place (71:100).

Places 5-8: Slowenia – Egypt 92:63 (23:11, 20:16, 24:21, 25:15)

In den ersten fünf Minuten des Spiels bekamen die Ägypter überhaupt keinen Zugriff auf das Spiel. Offenbar mussten Sie sich noch an die ungewohnte Spielhalle gewöhnen. Slowenien zog auf 17:4 davon, ehe Ägypten wenigstens offensiv etwas besser in Tritt kam. Es blieb aber vieles Stückwerk, die Nordostafrikaner agierten bisweilen doch recht wild und waren nach dem ersten Viertel deutlich im Hintertreffen (23:11). Und es ging genauso weiter, beim 32:11 (14.) drohte gar ein Debakel. Ägypten kam etwas heran und bei 15-20 Punkten Abstand pendelte sich die Partie einige Minuten lang ein. Ägypten hatte durchaus Möglichkeiten näher heran zu kommen, ließ aber zu viele davon ungenutzt (Halbzeit 43:27).

Auch nach 25 Minuten hatte sich nicht viel am Szenario geändert. Ägypten investierte viel, aber heraus kam dabei einfach zu wenig. Slowenien kontrollierte die Partie bis dahin ohne größere Mühe. Doch es wäre nicht das erste Mal in diesem Turnier, dass die Ägypter einen deutlichen Rückstand aufholen. 54:46 hieß es nur noch (26.), Auszeit Slowenien. Slowenien befreite sich vom ägyptischen Druck und hatte beim 74:50 (32.) wieder klar die Nase vorn. Die Entscheidung war gefallen, Slowenien spielt morgen um 11.45 Uhr um AST-Platz fünf, Ägypten um 9.30 Uhr um Platz sieben.

In the first five minutes of the game, the Egyptians had no grip on the game at all. They obviously still had to get used to the unfamiliar game arena. Slovenia pulled away to 17:4 before Egypt at least got into its stride a little better offensively. However, much remained piecemeal, the north-east Africans acted quite wildly at times and were clearly behind after the first quarter (23:11). And it continued in the same vein, with the score at 32:11 (14.) even threatening a debacle. Egypt closed the gap somewhat and the game settled at 15-20 points for a few minutes. Egypt certainly had opportunities to close the gap, but missed too many chances (43:27 at half-time).

Even after 25 minutes, not much had changed in the scenario. Egypt invested a lot, but simply came up short. Slovenia had controlled the game up to that point without much trouble. However, it would not be the first time in this tournament that the Egyptians had made up a significant deficit. The score was 54:46 (26′) and Slovenia called time-out. Slovenia freed itself from the Egyptian pressure and was clearly ahead again at 74:50 (32′). The decision was made, Slovenia will play for fifth place in the AST tomorrow at 11.45 am, Egypt for seventh place at 9.30 am.

Places 5-8: Greece – Japan 79:77 (22:17, 22:20, 19:15, 16:25)

Beide Teams lieferten dem anfangs noch recht spärlichen Publikum einen munteren Schlagabtausch (8:7, 4. | 12:13, 6.). Die Japaner hielten sehr gut mit, bis die Griechen gegen Ende des ersten Viertels etwas Oberwasser bekamen und nach zehn Minuten mit 22:17 führten. Dieser Trend setzte sich weiter fort. Die Griechen übernahmen die Kontrolle und führten nach 13 Minuten zweistellig (32:19). Japan hatte unter den Körben wenig Chancen und ließ jetzt auch die Treffsicherheit von jenseits der Dreipunktelinie vermissen. Aber abschreiben durfrte man die Asiaten, die schnell wieder auf 34:30 heran kamen, nicht (16.). Japan war jetzt wieder am Drücker (36:34, 17.). Bis zum Seitenwechsel „erholten“ sich die Griechen wieder etwas (44:37).

Die Griechen bewahrten den Vorsprung im Verlauf des dritten Viertels (55:44, 26.). Japan fiel wieder in die Schwächephase der ersten Hälfte zurück und Griechenland hatte relativ leichtes Spiel. Ganz abschütteln ließen sich die Japaner aber nicht, sodass die Partie nach drei Vierteln noch nicht entschieden war (63:52). Sechs Minuten vor dem Ende war Japan wieder recht nah (67:60) und witterte eine Chance. Die Griechen behielten aber trotz großer Schwierigkeiten (76:71, 38. | 77:77, 40.) die Überhand und spielen morgen um 11.45 Uhr gegen Slowenien um AST-Platz fünf, Japan gegen Ägypten um 9.30 Uhr um Platz sieben.

Both teams produced a lively exchange of blows for the initially rather sparse crowd (8:7, 4th | 12:13, 6.). The Japanese kept up very well until the Greeks gained the upper hand towards the end of the first quarter and led 22:17 after ten minutes. This trend continued. The Greeks took control and led by double digits after 13 minutes (32:19). Japan had few chances under the baskets and now also lacked accuracy from beyond the three-point line. However, the Asians, who quickly closed the gap to 34:30 (16.), could not be written off. Japan was now back in control (36:34, 17.). The Greeks had „recovered“ somewhat by the break (44:37).

The Greeks maintained their lead over the course of the third quarter (55:44, 26.). Japan fell back into the weak phase of the first half and Greece had a relatively easy game. However, the Japanese were not completely shaken off and the game was not yet decided after three quarters (63:52). Six minutes before the end, Japan was quite close again (67:60) and sensed an opportunity. Despite great difficulties (76-71, 38th | 77-77, 40th), the Greeks kept the upper hand and will play Slovenia tomorrow at 11.45 a.m. for fifth place in the AST, while Japan will play Egypt at 9.30 a.m. for seventh place.

Semi-finals

Australia – Italy 80:66 (24:19, 12:15, 22:15, 22:17)

Was für ein Beginn! Nach nur wenigen Sekunden hämmerte Roman Siulepa den Ball durch die italienische Reuse und sorgte den ersten Höhepunkt. Australiens Center Rocco Zikarsky wurde von den Italienern förmlich „bearbeitet“, kam aber trotzdem früh gut ins Spiel und zeigte sein riesengroßes Potenzial. Italien verpasste anfangs einige offene Würfe, sodass Australien obenauf war (13:7, 6.). Spektakuläre Szenen von N’Guessan Ellisee Assui und Zikarksky folgten (17:11, 8.). Australien wirkte reifer und spielte mehr als Team, aber auch die Italiener konnten sich jetzt einige Male gut in Szene setzen und erhöhte den defensiven Druck (21:15, 9.). Nach zehn sehr unterhaltsamen Minuten hieß es 24:19 für Australien.

Italien war früh foulbelastet und musste zwangsweise durchrotieren. Australien nutzte eiskalt jede Schwäche des Gegners und ging mit 32:19 in Führung (13.), Auszeit Italien. Ein Dreier tat den Azzurri zu diesem Zeitpunkt gut, aber sie foulten einfach zu viel und schickten den Gegner früh im zweiten Viertel an die Freiwurflinie. Trotzdem gehörten diese Minuten den Italienern (32:26, 15.), Auszeit Australien. Leidenschaftlich warfen sich die Italiener in die Partie und beeindruckten die „Aussies“ (32:28, 16.). Jugendbasketball vom Feinsten … das wurde jetzt auf dem Parkett der GBG Halle geboten. Luke Fennell brach den Bann für Australien mit einem Floater, dann war Italien auf 34:32 heran (18.). Zikarsky zeigte sich genervt und ging vom Feld. Zur Pause haten bereits drei italienische Spieler drei Fouls auf ihrem Konto, weitere zwei je zwei Fouls (36:34).

Australien kam mit voller Power aus der Kabine, Italien konterte per Dreier von 217 cm Mann Luigi Suigo (41:37, 22.). Siulepa zeigte seine unglaubliche Athletik und Durchsetzungsfähigkeit mit Punkten zur 46:37-Führung nach weniger als zwei Minuten im dritten Viertel. Zikarskay dominierte wieder, Siulepa machte mit und Australien war auf dem Weg zur Vorentscheidung (47:32, 25.). Wieder half den Italienern ein Dreier „aus der Patsche“, dann zwei Freiwurftreffer und ein Jumper und es hieß nur noch 52:44 (27.). Australien antwortete gut auf den italienischen Lauf, aber Italien war jetzt wieder voll da (56:49, 29.). Australien ging mit einer Neun-Punkte-Führung in den Schlussabschnitt.

Hatte Italien noch einmal die Kraft für ein Comeback? Eiskalt netzte Fennell einen Dreier zum 61:49 (32.) und es sprach wieder viel für einen australischen Erfolg. Siulepa und Zikarsky waren einfach nicht zu stoppen und die Italiener ließen jetzt auch in der Körpersprache nach (65:49, 34.). Doch noch einmal mobilisierten sie alles (65:56, 36.). Doch es war das letzte Aufbäumen, Australien brachte den Finaleinzug recht sicher nach Hause.

What a start! After just a few seconds, Roman Siulepa hammered the ball through the Italian net to provide the first highlight. Australia’s center Rocco Zikarsky was literally „worked over“ by the Italians, but nevertheless got into the game well early on and showed his huge potential. Italy missed a few open shots at the start, with the result that Australia was on top (13:7, 6th minute). Spectacular scenes from N’Guessan Ellisee Assui and Zikarksky followed (17:11, 8.). Australia looked more mature and played more as a team, but the Italians were now also able to make their presence felt on a number of occasions and increased their defensive pressure (21:15, 9.). After ten very entertaining minutes, the score was 24:19 in Australia’s favor.

Italy was fouled early on and was forced to rotate. Australia exploited every weakness of their opponents with ice-cold precision and took a 32:19 lead (13th), timeout Italy. A three-pointer did the Azzurri good at this point, but they simply fouled too much and sent their opponents to the free throw line early in the second quarter. Nevertheless, these minutes belonged to the Italians (32:26, 15th), time-out Australia. The Italians threw themselves passionately into the game and impressed the Aussies (32:28, 16). Youth basketball at its finest … that was now on show on the floor of the GBG Halle. Luke Fennell broke the spell for Australia with a floater, after which Italy closed the gap to 34:32 (18). Zikarsky was annoyed and left the court. By the break, three Italian players already had three fouls to their name and a further two had two fouls each (36:34).

Australia came out of the locker room with full power and Italy countered with a three-pointer from 217 cm man Luigi Suigo (41:37, 22.). Siulepa showed his incredible athleticism and assertiveness with points to give his side a 46:37 lead less than two minutes into the third quarter. Zikarskay dominated again, Siulepa joined in and Australia was on its way to a preliminary decision (47:32, 25.). A three again helped the Italians „out of trouble“, then two free throws and a jumper and it was only 52:44 (27.). Australia responded well to the Italian run, but Italy was now back on top (56:49, 29.). Australia went into the final period with a nine-point lead.

Did Italy have the strength for a comeback? Fennell drained an ice-cold three to make it 61:49 (32.) and there was again much to suggest an Australian success. Siulepa and Zikarsky were simply unstoppable and the Italians now also let up in terms of body language (65:49, 34.). However, they mobilized everything once more (65:56, 36.). But it was the last gasp and Australia took home the spot in the final quite safely.
