Despite moving the ball consistently in the first half, Sherwood found itself tied with Perry Hall in their Class 4A/3A state semifinal. Warriors coach Pat Cilento had a message for his team. “We had to settle down. We weren’t playing Sherwood football,” he said. “We turned the ball over. It was about making critical mistakes and if we just settled down and played our football we would be fine.” They were better than fine. The Warriors came out for the second half and scored 28 straight points and cruised to a 42-14 victory. They will play Mervo next week for the state championship at a day and time to be announced.
