Tom Aspinall Suffers Severe Eye Injury After Controversial Ciryl Gane Bout
Tom Aspinall`s father has revealed that the UFC heavyweight still has no vision in his right eye following his recent bout against Ciryl Gane. The fight, held in Abu Dhabi, was controversially declared a `no contest` in the opening round after Aspinall was accidentally poked in the eye.
The incident occurred when Gane appeared to make contact with Aspinall`s eye with his fingers during a punch, leading Aspinall to inform the ringside doctor that he was unable to see, forcing the fight to stop.
Detailing the extent of the injury, Aspinall Sr. stated on his son`s official YouTube channel, “We had an appointment yesterday morning with a friend of ours, a UFC doctor, who secured us a private appointment at Cheadle hospital. He said it`s bad, not good. His eye is a little more closed than before, and he still can`t see anything with his right eye; it`s just grey.”
He added that Aspinall`s left eye is also affected, operating at “50 percent,” meaning one eye is very blurry while the other remains non-functional. Further medical examinations are planned for this week, including a CT scan, to assess potential bone damage, although doctors currently believe the bone is fine. The immediate concern is the functionality of the eye muscles, which are not working strongly enough.
