Amsterdam win first ever Dutch Euro indoor Club Cup title

0 15

AH&BC Amsterdam became the first Dutch side to win the men’s EuroHockey Indoor Club Cup as they won the final 7-4 against Harvestehuder THC to lift the trophy.

They led from the second minute when Boris Burkhardt was located by a beautiful passing move into the D where he slotted home the chance. Mustapha Cassiem made it two when his brother Dayaan – later named player of the tournament – pinched possession in the right corner, 2-0 up after seven minutes.

The five-time champions responded with a Gracjan Jarzyński goal from a corner but both Cassiem brothers added another goal to pull into a 4-1 lead, Mustapha producing some sublime trickery to create his goal.

Niklas Reuter reduced arears before the big break after some outrageous Jonas von Gersum skills opened the door. Dayaan Cassiem, though, made sure it was a short reprieve, cleaning up his own rebound after a long run on the left boards.

From there, Amsterdam sat deep as HTHC tried to find holes but few were forthcoming. Xaver Hasun did force one over the line to make it 5-3 going into the final quarter.

Both Burkhardt and Karst Timmer were able to score into a vacant net as the Germans chased goals to get back into the tie as they were able to celebrate a memorable final victory.

It followed a dramatic weekend in which Amsterdam had lost in the group stages against reigning champions Royal Léopold while HTHC fell to Junior FC before both bounced back to win their semi-finals.

The other EHL side involved, Old Georgians, finished in sixth place overall in what was their first appearance at this level of competition.
