Watsonians the Scottish women’s indoor champs once more

0 5

Scottish EHL-representatives Watsonians swept to their national indoor title with a resounding 8-1 win over Clydesdale Western to win the final last weekend.

The trophy adds to a busy season which will see them compete in two weeks in the EuroHockey Indoor Club Trophy in France before travelling to Den Bosch for the EHL FINALS at Easter.

While it was an extensive win, it didn’t start off that way when Clydesdale galloped into an early lead through a penalty corner conversion by Margery Justice with a low hard shot.

The game went from end to end and in nine minutes Katie Crawford levelled for Watsonians when she forced the ball home.

The foundations of the champion’s triumph came in the second quarter – Tabitha Peck pounced on a loose ball and prodded it home for 2-1, then Milly Berndes-Cade fired a shot into the bottom right corner, and finally in a swift counter-attack it was Peck again who finished with a scoop.   That was 4-1 at the interval.

Clydesdale coach Fiona Semple took the gamble of replacing her keeper with an additional outfield player to rescue the cause. It failed as Berndes-Cade embarked on another counter-attack and finished by putting the ball into the empty net.

To add insult to injury Peck repeated the scenario a minute later to complete her own hat-trick; further goals from Emily Dark and Millie Skidmore completed the win.

The post Watsonians the Scottish women’s indoor champs once more first appeared on EHL.
