Dolou back with a bang with Saint Ger
Saint Germain returnee Hugo Dolou made a big impression in his first appearance for the club last weekend as he fired home four times in an 8-1 success against FC Lyon last weekend.
It gave the Parisian club a great start to the French championship and they will look to continue that momentum into a Saturday evening battle with Racing Club de France.
The arrival from Royal Victory is among a number of changes at the French side who are also boosted by the return of Olympian Blaise Rogeau after spells with Gantoise and Waterloo Ducks.
On the flip side, Noé Jouin has switched to Racing Club de Bruxelles, Hugo Verrier to Junior FC while Guillaume Samson and Hugo Genestet have retired.
Nonetheless, it is a panel with healthy youth and experience. Captain François Goyet has been a pivotal member of the French international team for a decade and he is back with the club he grew up at after several seasons with Gantoise.
Double Olympian Keenan Horne – from South Africa – is a very handy player too as they guide a wealth of young players who are part of the impressive French underage teams.
Thomas Assoignon, Arthur Morcrette, Gabriel Piole (joining from Douai) and Jule Verrier were all part of the Junior World Cup silver medal while Alexandre Hannaert was with the Under-18 side that won European silver this summer in Lille.
The team is coached by Tom Genestet, continuing the family’s pivotal connection in the Saint Germain story in the EHL. He played in the first of the club’s ventures in the competition in 2007/08 when they reached the KO8.
It began a journey which has seen Saint Ger compete in 14 seasons of the EHL, twice reaching the last eight. They are back after a four year hiatus, the longest break between appearances.
