Big guns fire in men’s Hoofdklasse
Two early season classics in the Dutch men’s Hoofdklasse on Thursday evening saw Rotterdam race back to beat Bloemendaal while Amsterdam and Kampong could not be separated in a repeat of the championship final.
The matches between Rotterdam and Bloemendaal are always high-scoring. In the last seven matches, 42 goals have been scored, an average of six per game. That average was also precisely achieved this time.
Bloemendaal took an early lead thanks to two penalty corners from Teun Beins. Just before halftime, Tjep Hoedemakers reduced the lead, after which Timme van der Heijden tapped in the equaliser.
Rotterdam then capitlaised on loose defensive play from the sparrows with Guus Jansen picking up the ball and slammed it home to make it 3-2. Shortly after, Thijs van Dam sealed the match from a penalty corner: 4-2.
For Amsterdam and Kampong, it ended 2-2 at the Klapperboom. Jip Janssen scored twice for Kampong, including the opening goal. He made it 1-0 for the 35th time in his Hoofdklasse history.
Floris Middendorp and Boris Burkhardt scored for reigning champions Amsterdam to swap the lead only for Janssen to strike once more.
Klein Zwitserland and Oranje-Rood remain as the last two sides with a 100% record as they defeated Hurley and HDM, respectively.
