Hamburger Polo Club top German men’s table
Hamburger Polo Club was confirmed as the winner of the German men’s Bundesliga regular season last Saturday when they won 3-2 against nearest rivals Mannheimer HC.
Polo made a blistering start and were already 2-0 up via goals from Constantin Staib (8th minute) and Tim Brand (26th minute) in the first half.
Champions Mannheim, however, didn’t give up quickly and equalised through Ben Hasbach and, at the end of the third quarter, Gonzalo Peillat from a corner.
However, only a win would have helped the hosts maintain a lingering chance of reaching the regular season top spot and they were caught on the counter by Tim Brand to win the day 3-2.
A day later, Polo added a 5-1 Sunday win over TSV Mannheim to lead the tabl by eight points going into the final round of matches this weekend.
Mannheim, Crefelder HTC and Rot-Weiss Köln are all confirmed in the playoff places at this stage.
