Goals scored decisive in ABN AMRO EHL U14 Girls groups
A thrilling day one of the ABN AMRO EHL U14 Girls tournament saw Club de Campo de Madrid, HTC Uhlenhorst Mülheim, Surbiton and Braxgata all advance to the semi-finals.
Indeed, Pool A was incredibly tight with each team ending with a win and a loss, 6 points and a goal difference. In the end, Campo and Mülheim advanced ahead of Pinoké on goals scored.
The Dutch club did start well, Phileine Bronkhorst’s goal two minutes from the end earning them a 1-0 win over their German group rival.
Ulhenhorst followed up with a 2-1 over Campo win with Clara Broermann and Alina Untila scoring in the first 10 minutes. Crucially for the Spanish side – in the final reckoning – Camila Masucci pulled one back which would ultimately make the difference.
Campo went on to win the final group game 1-0 with Patricia Medina Garcia scoring the only goal of the contest in the second minute, knocking out Pinoké in the process.
In Pool B, Surbiton went through at the top of the group following two narrow wins but it was again goals scored that was decisive for Braxgata to go through with them.
Tamsin Lyons got the only goal in their 1-0 success against hdm and they backed it up with a 4-3 thriller win over Brax. It was locked at 2-2, Anjalie Rohan and Francesca Weal scoring for the English side either end of a double from Loul de Ridder.
But quickfire goals from Weal and Eva Franks-Martin put Surbiton 4-2 up. Brax, though, needed to get one back to go through as well and they got what they needed with two minutes left via Alix Bosmans, a 4-3 defeat enough to see them through.
That was because of an earlier 1-1 draw with hdm, Elfi Buggenhoudt and Elin Mantel sharing the goals.
Sunday’s semi-finals see Uhlenhorst Mülheim play Braxgata at 10am and Surbiton meet Campo at 11.15am in the semi-finals.
Pinoké and hdm contest the fifth place playoff before the bronze match takes place at 1.45pm. The final is at 3pm.
