De Rosa Vs Masson For The Vacant EBU Super Bantamweight Title
By Per-Åke Persson
Italian Francesco De Rosa (12-0) and French veteran Thomas Masson (24-6-1) will meet on July 31 in Calangianus on the island of Sardinia in a show promoted by Mario Loreni and his Promoboxe organization.
The parties reached an agreement before the deadline for purse bids.
Masson began his career at flyweight and won the EBU title in 2015, but lost to Daisuke Naito in a fight for the WBC title in 2017. He then fought only once a year from 2018 through 2023. In 2024, Thomas began a serious comeback and has since won the French title as well as the WBC Francophone belt.
De Rosa stopped Nyan Berry (then 10-0) in the UK in 2024 to win the IBF European strap for his first major victory. In his last fight, he stopped Frenchman Geram Eloyan (13-6) to win the EBU Silver title.
