Result: Munguia Dominates Reséndiz

Off to a slow start in the opening round, Munguia picked it up late in the frame as he became the more consistent fighter. Munguia had another strong round in the second, outworking Reséndiz and finishing strong. Staying busy in the third, it was all Munguia as Reséndiz attempted to work his way inside and close the distance. Boxing well and displaying superior speed and combinations, Munguia took it to Reséndiz in the fourth round.
Continuing to box effectively in the sixth, Munguia controlled the fight as Reséndiz pressed forward but still could not close the gap. At the halfway mark of the sixth, the Tijuana fighter stayed busy, though Reséndiz briefly pinned Munguia against the ropes and connected with a few shots. Moments later, Munguia answered with a solid uppercut. Through seven rounds, it was all Munguia as he displayed strong boxing skills while controlling the fight against Reséndiz. The Nayarit fighter could not get going in the eighth as Munguia’s overall boxing ability proved overwhelming.
In the ninth, Munguia unloaded on Reséndiz with a combination, appearing to separate himself further and move closer to victory. The fight seemed firmly in Munguia’s hands in the tenth as he cruised through the round, boxing effectively behind the jab while Reséndiz stalked unsuccessfully. Moving side to side in the championship rounds, Munguia fought conservatively as Reséndiz continued pressing forward. Finishing strong, Munguia took it to Reséndiz in the final round as the two fighters exchanged punches right up to the final bell.
The judges scored it 120-108, 119-109, and 117-111 as Munguía earned the decision victory, improving to 46-2 with 35 KOs and becoming the new WBA super middleweight champion. Reséndiz relinquishes the title as he falls to 16-3 with 11 KOs.
