The upcoming bout between Jaime Munguía and Armando ‘Toro’ Reséndiz for the World Boxing Association super middleweight title will be the 173rd time two Mexican fighters meet for a world championship.

Historically, these matchups don’t leave much to interpretation. Of the previous 172, 94 ended by knockout, while 71 were decided on the scorecards, including three technical decisions. There have also been six draws and one no contest.

Munguía enters the ring with the higher profile. Even when the numbers don’t predict a winner, it does suggest the type of fight this is likely to become, two Mexican fighters sharing the ring for a world championship is must see TV.
