Rumble On The Reeperbahn May 1 In Hamburg

0 3

May 1st, Große Freiheit 36 – an event presented by BOXEN im NORDEN and METROPOL Boxing. Sanctioning bodies: World Boxing Federation (WBF) and Bund Deutscher Berufsboxer (BdB).

With 11 highly ranked professional bouts, “Boxen im Norden” kicks off its 11th year:

FAI FIGHTS FOR AN ADDITIONAL WORLD TITLE
Intense, continuous training has made it possible: In a bout against the 18cm-taller Lena Venjacob (7-1, 86% KO rate, long reach), WBF World Champion Fai “Diamond” Phannarai aims—during her sixth title defense in the super bantamweight division—to simultaneously capture the world title belt in the lower bantamweight division.

HAMBURG NEEDS A WORLD CHAMPION AGAIN
In his 30th professional fight (23 wins, 17 knockouts), Hamburg native Alex Pavlov looks to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a world champion as he faces Bosnia’s No. 1 contender, Dorde Krsmanovic (8-1), in a scheduled 12-round world title bout in the welterweight division.
Following a series of major title fights (BdB, WBO, IBF, WBF) and his victory for the IBF Intercontinental title, this would mark the crowning achievement of his career. His highly successful trainer, Viktor Hermann (a former Soviet Union champion), states: “In the welterweight division, Alex won’t be up against hulking masses of muscle. Now, Alex is going to make his dream of a world title a reality.”

NORTHERN ENGLAND ROCKS THE KIEZ
250 enthusiastic English fans from the Newcastle region are accompanying Steven “Disney Drago” Robinson to his WBF heavyweight title fight at the legendary venue Grosse Freiheit. His opponent, Angelo Venjakob (30, 8-4-0), represents top-tier quality. Promoter Thomas Nissen remarks: “We are delighted to welcome our friends from the boxing-mad island. In the heavyweight division, predicting a winner is always a challenge. Standing 2.03 meters tall, Steven is a very intriguing boxer with a bright future.”

THERE IS ONLY ONE HAFEN-BASTI
Another Hamburg fan favorite—former IBO World Champion Sebastian Formella (38, 26(14)-3-0)—steps into the ring beneath the disco ball. He faces the Brazilian Eduardo Reis (25, 15-0) in eight heated rounds at the super welterweight limit—a bout that certainly has the makings of a main event.

THE METROPOL BOXING FOUNDATION
Preceding this “block of four main events,” the newly established “Metropol Boxing” organization will be introduced—an initiative designed to support our Hamburg-based athletes as they achieve higher rankings and compete internationally in English-speaking markets.
Specifically for the title bouts featuring our homegrown talent, the music label “Deep Melange”—working with artists Volkan & Maja—has produced original songs for Phannarai and Pavlov. These tracks will be distributed simultaneously to media outlets, broadcasters, and music clubs worldwide on May 1st. Potential hit status: highly likely—in English, for a global audience.

GORILLA vs. K.O. KING JANJANIN
In the heavyweight division, England’s Neil “Willa the Gorilla” Wilson steps into the ring to face Drazan Janjanin (20 KOs in 23 victories).

MIDDLEWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
Reigning WBF Champion Viktor Temirov (10(7)-0), with Artur Mann in his corner, will face Carlos Rivera (32(18)-12-0) from Caracas.
Consul General Dr. Denis Rogov and elite world champion Ina Menzer will, of course, be ringside, rooting enthusiastically for Temirov.

HAMBURG’S ELITE BOXERS
With Hamburg’s own Nenad Stancic, Razmik Sargsyan, and Helmut Ofori—joined by Flensburg’s Tom Gilde—the ring welcomes local favorites who bring with them immense quality and a tremendous fan following.

LIVE ACTS: ROCK & SOUL
Deep Melange, Ana-Maria Alfarino, international star Liz Cunningham, Serena Voss, and Kalle Haverland will take the stage for live performances in the ring.

SWEET TREATS FOR THE LADIES
Local baker Thomas has crafted a special batch of boxing-glove pastries exclusively for 100 female guests; adorned with the “Boxen im Norden” and “Metropol Boxing” logos, these treats will be presented to them personally by Thomas himself. This gesture, too, serves as a testament to the warm and close-knit spirit of our boxing family.

QUALITY IS ESSENTIAL
With Ingo Rohrbach, Ina Menzer, and Marco Ostwald at the helm, we will guide you through this event with competence, expertise, and an electric atmosphere.

A MAJOR CHALLENGE
“The 11 bouts scheduled for this May 1st represent a major challenge.
We will tackle it with enthusiasm. There isn’t a single fight on the card that we would have wanted to turn down,” says promoter Thomas Nissen, getting the expected 1,600 guests—and the “packed house”—primed for an evening requiring “good stamina.”
