MVPW-01: Caroline Dubois Earns Unified Lightweight Title & Ellie Scotney Becomes UK’s Youngest Undisputed Champion
At the historic MVPW-01 tonight, Most Valuable Promotions’ “Sweet” Caroline Dubois (13-0-1, 5 KOs) delivered a standout performance to defeat MVP’s three-division champion Terri “Belter” Harper (16-3-2, 6 KOs) to become the new unified WBO and WBC lightweight world champion in a fiercely contested 10-round bout at 135 lbs, broadcast live on Sky Sports in the UK and ESPN+ in the U.S. Dubois controlled much of the fight with her sharp, dominant approach, knocking down Harper once, while Harper mounted a strong comeback in the later rounds. After going the distance, Dubois earned a unanimous decision victory (98-91×2, 97-92). In the historic double main event and an instant Fight of the Year contender, MVP’s undefeated, unified WBO, WBC, and IBF super bantamweight world champion Ellie Scotney (12-0) of Catford, London, England, BoxRec’s #9 pound-for-pound fighter, faced Mexico’s WBA super bantamweight world champion Mayelli Flores (13-2-1, 4 KOs) in a 10-round undisputed championship bout at 122 lbs. With the opportunity to become the youngest undisputed four-belt champion in UK history, male or female, Scotney delivered a composed and commanding performance, countering Flores’ aggressive flurries with sharp power shots and disciplined technique. After 10 full rounds, the bout went to the scorecards, where Scotney earned a unanimous decision victory (96-94, 100-90×2), becoming the youngest undisputed champion in UK history and the first-ever undisputed champion at 122 lbs. Scotney earned the OOSCH Fighter of the Night bonus for the win.
Also on the main card, MVP’s Chantelle Cameron (22-1, 8 KOs) of Northampton, England, former undisputed super lightweight champion, the only woman to defeat Katie Taylor, and ESPN’s #5 and Ring’s #4 pound-for-pound fighter in the world, stepped up to junior middleweight to challenge for the vacant WBO title against Austrian national boxing team veteran and multiple-time Austrian national champion Michaela Kotaskova (11-1-2, 4 KOs) in a 10-round championship bout at 154 lbs, contested under equal rules with three-minute rounds. Cameron utilized her relentless pace and conditioning to control the fight across all ten rounds, while Kotaskova found moments of success in the later rounds. The bout went to the scorecards, where Cameron earned a unanimous decision victory (100-90, 99-91×2), becoming the new WBO junior middleweight world champion and a two-division world champion. Following the fight, Cameron called out MVP’s Mikaela Mayer as her next opponent during a post-fight interview with Sky Sports’ Andy Scott and Mayer before facing off in the ring with MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian. The bout earned MVP’s Performance of the Night bonus.
Opening the main card, reigning IBF junior bantamweight champion Irma Garcia (26-5-1, 6 KOs) of Mexico City, Mexico, an attorney and a police officer outside of the ring, defended her title against British and Commonwealth super-flyweight champion Emma Dolan (8-1, 1 KO) in a 10-round bout at 115 lbs. Garcia asserted control early, dropping Dolan twice in the second round before continuing the onslaught in the third round, where the referee stopped the contest at 1:23, awarding Garcia a TKO victory to retain her title.
In the preliminary card headliner, MVP’s Shannon “The Baby Face Assassin” Courtenay (11-3, 4 KOs) faced Nottingham’s Sasha Booker (3-2) in an 8-round bout in the super flyweight division at 115lbs. Courtenay took control early, knocking down Booker in the second round before following up with a head and body shot that sent Booker down again in the third round. The referee stepped in to stop the contest at 1:57 in the third round, awarding Courtenay a dominant TKO victory.
Also on the preliminary card, English and Commonwealth Youth champion, former European champion Chloe Watson (9-3, 1 KO) faced Finland’s Teresa Makinen (6-0) in an 8-round bantamweight bout at 118lbs. In a closely contested bout, both fighters traded competitive rounds. After eight hard-fought rounds, the bout went to the scorecard (77-75), declaring Makinen the winner by points.
MVP’s #1 IBF, #7 WBA, and #12 WBC contender Elizabeth Oshoba (10-0, 6 KOs) made her promotional debut vs. Hull, Yorkshire’s Chelsey Arnell (5-3-1) in a 6-round featherweight bout at 126lbs contested under equal rules, three-minute rounds. Oshoba showcased her dominance from the opening bell, landing powerful, precise shots on Arnell before the referee stopped the contest 42 seconds into the third round, securing a commanding TKO victory and extending her undefeated streak.
Also on the preliminary card, Ilford, Essex, undefeated talent Arjon Basi (3-0, 1 KO) knocked out Jake Price (3-11-1) in the second round of action. National amateur standout and Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire’s Gemma Richardson (3-0, 1 KO) continued to develop her undefeated professional record with a points win (60-54) over Czech boxer Johana Rajmont (6-8-1, 2 KOs) after 6 rounds of action in the lightweight division. Opening the evening, Tilbury, Essex’s 25-year-old Harvey Smith (7-1, 1 KO) defeated Argentina’s Juan Alberto Batista (1-25) by points (40-36) after a four-round bantamweight bout.
