MVPW-01 Post Fight Presser
At the press conference following the fights, Nakisa Bidarian, CEO of MVP and the fighters had much to discuss.
NAKISA BIDARIAN QUOTES
On getting Ellie Scotney a car:
Look, we just need Ellie to get her license and as soon as she gets that she’s she’s getting a car. We’ll talk to her about what makes sense and what she wants. I know she’s put out the G Wagon already. So, if that’s really what she wants, we’ll try to figure that out for her.
On MVP’s new rule to give fighters a car if they become the youngest undisputed male or female in history in their home country:
So just for the record, the new rule at MVP is if you become the youngest undisputed male or female in history in your country, we will get you a car. So, set that in stone. She did it because everyone’s going to be asking where’s their car every time they win. But that’s the rule.
On MVP working with Sky Sports:
Want to thank Sky Sports for believing in our vision of what women mean for boxing, the product that they can deliver. I think working with them, we delivered tonight for the sport, for these athletes, for the previous generations, current generations, and future generations.
On working with the Olympia:
I want to thank the Olympia for allowing us to come to this historic hall that was once the home of many great big boxing events. When we came to London, what we wanted to do was do something fresh, but something that meant something to the sport of boxing from a country that we’re new to and we felt that was achieved tonight.
On Dubois vs. Harper:
I thought it was a harder fight than anticipated. And in the end, I think the right person
won. But kudos to Terry Harper. What a what a champion. It’s been an honor to work with her just on this one fight and we said to her, we want her to continue to be involved in MVP.
On Chantelle Cameron:
Tonight, you saw why she is one of the goats of boxing. If Katie Taylor is a goat, then Chantelle Cameron is a goat.
On the location for Chantelle Cameron vs. Mikaela Mayer:
Probably in the US is the thought process for that fight. We’ve talked to Chantelle about that. We’ve talked to Mikaela about that. But we’ll see.
On Caroline Dubois facing Katie Taylor:
My dream scenario is for Caroline [Dubois] to be the last dance partner of Katie Taylor. The goat Chantelle Cameron just walked in and I know Katie Taylor won’t take that fight, but maybe Katie Taylor seizes an opportunity to pass the baton. Not pass it, but give Caroline the opportunity to take the baton from her. And I think that would be a massive fight at Croke Park.
CAROLINE DUBOIS QUOTES:
On her thoughts on Terri Harper following the bout:
She’s smart, you know, and she’s experienced. She knows how to get through a fight. She knows how to box. I guess their tactics was to stay away and try and counter.
On putting pressure on Harper:
I tried to do that. Could have definitely done a bit more.
On fighting Katie Taylor:
I got a lot of time for Katie. I think she’s a legend. If she said Caroline Dubois, let’s do this, you know. If she wants to test herself against me, I would jump at the opportunity. Who wouldn’t?
On fighting MVP’s Alycia Baumgardner:
I’m interested in is Alycia “The Bomb” Baumgardner. And I think we’ll be able to see who truly is the best. And I believe it’s me. That’s the fight I want by the end of the year. There’s no need to waste time. There’s no need to mess around.
On the significance of fighting MVP’s Alycia Baumgardner:
The biggest fight in women’s boxing. I want Alycia. I want her next.
ELLIE SCOTNEY QUOTES:
On preparation for the bout:
When I tell you everything that could have went wrong in camp, in the leadup went wrong, but on the night everything went right. And again, as I keep saying, all thanks be to the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
On her post-fight interaction with Mayelli Flores:
All props to her. I went and saw her straight away afterwards giving her belt back and she said rematch. I said, “No, thank you.”
On becoming undisputed:
I feel like I’ve waited a long time to get this moment and at certain points I thought, am I going to get it? But, you know, MVP came in, and they made sure I did.
On her mindset going into the ring:
If you want to become undisputed, being in that 1% club, you’ve got to go through whatever it takes. And I had that mindset when I went through that ring. Whatever it took, I was going to become undisputed.
On putting a spotlight on women’s boxing:
I feel like the spotlight was on women’s boxing and that’s what it’s about. I feel like if we can all come together and make noise and then we’re doing something right. So no, it was never about stealing any spotlight. It was putting the spotlight on women’s boxing and that’s what MVP are doing.
On her mother getting in the ring with her:
My mom is the backbone of me and you know, I always go back to what she’s given me and I could never give her enough back. To see her in that ring tonight and yeah she endured so much with me, so this journey was so much bigger than just me. I love my mum. I love her and tonight I hope she was proud.
CHANTELLE CAMERON QUOTES:
On the significance of her win:
It was beautiful. It was a special moment for me. It meant more to me than winning the world title.
On doing three-minute rounds:
I’m absolutely ecstatic. I’m glad to make history and do the three-minute rounds and get it under my belt now.
On doing three-minute rounds moving forward:
It did feel different. I think I had to like kind of pace myself as well, but I think it suited me a lot better because I felt like I got better shots off. But I think 3 minutes is the way forward.
On going down a weight class:
I’m going to go down a weight. I think that weight was a bit too much for me. I think I felt the size in there a bit and she was really tough and maybe down a weight I could have got the stoppage but that weight is not for me.
On facing Mikaela Mayer under three minute rounds:
I’d love it to be three minute rounds and I think Mikaela [Mayer] will do three rounds as well. I think she’s got the work rate and I think she’ll do three minute rounds and it would be a shame to go back to twos. It’s kind of like going backwards.
