The first professional boxing event in this town since 1968 went ahead tonight at a packed Lilla Nova. The local heroes all won, the promoter made a profit, and another event was promised down the road.
Welterweight and the biggest star among the local fighters, Peter Ahlberg, turned pro and stopped a tough opponent, Hungarian Erik Tamas Orsos (2-6), in the third round. Orsos could well have caved in earlier but put up a good performance, giving Ahlberg a solid introduction to the pros.
Super middleweight Ajet Jusufi (5-0) faced a good challenge from Georgian Tamaz Berikashvili (0-1-1) but won clearly on points. Berikashvili was down in the fourth and final round.
Light heavyweight Ardi Hajra knocked out Giorgi Saginashvili 57 seconds into the first round. Both fighters were making their professional debuts.
In an all-Swedish matchup, middleweight Kamkian Djiminger (3-0) outscored John Jeppsson Rudell (0-3) over four rounds.
Super featherweight prospect Neo Vis Jagemar (4-0) knocked out Georgian Vajktang Bergashvili (2-7) with a southpaw right hook to the body early in the first round.
Local hero Marco Alard made his pro debut and stopped Hungarian Andras Balogh (2-3) in the second round.
