Mexico Wins Two Bronze Medals In 2026 World Boxing Futures Cup

The Mexican delegation has won two bronze medals at the World Boxing U-19 Futures Cup, held in Bangkok, Thailand, an event organized by World Boxing.

Jonathan Bibriesca Arévalo, from the State of Mexico, advanced to the semifinals after defeating Uzbekistan’s Bekzod Ismoiljonov by split decision (3-2) in the 55-kilogram category during the quarterfinal round. The judges scored the bout 29-28, 29-28, 29-28, 28-29, and 28-29 in favor of the Mexican.

Bibriesca Arévalo was defeated in the semifinals by American Christian Paez by split decision (4-1), with scores of 28-29, 27-30, 29-28, 27-30, and 28-29, a result that secured him the bronze medal.

Sofía Guadalupe Ramírez Reyes of Michoacán defeated Germany’s Lorin Sayim in the quarterfinals of the 54-kilogram division by referee stoppage (RSC). She then lost to India’s Joyshree Devi Chirom in the semifinals, also by RSC, to earn the bronze medal.

The tournament concluded on Sunday, March 15, with the final matches for the gold and silver medals. World Boxing will announce the allocation of spots for the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympic Games.
