Unbeaten southpaw Ryusei Matsumoto (8-0, 4 KOs), 105, lopsidedly kept his newly acquired WBA minimumweight belt by pounding out a shutout decision (all 120-108) over Yuni Takada (16-7-3, 9 KOs) over twelve fast rounds on Sunday in Yokohama, Japan. It was a direct rematch since their first encounter resulted in a technical decision win for Matsumoto due to an accidental head collision last September. Moving to-and-fro and countering with precision, the southpaw champ kept piling up points with accurate combos in every round. Matsumoto bloodied the game challenger with sharp counters in round seven, and Takada kept streaming red ribbon until the end. Matsumoto, 27 as Takada, showed his technical improvement in offence and defense. The victor had him at bay in round eleven, but Takada withstood the champ’s punishing body bombardments with his determination.
