Golden Boy’s welterweight prospect Joel Iriarte overcame getting rocked in the second round by Rock Myrthil, eventually stopping his rugged opponent in the sixth round. Iriarte remained patient, stalking Myrthil and dropping him with a beautiful left hook in the sixth. Referee Thomas Taylor advised Myrthil to protect himself, but a follow-up barrage by Iriarte prompted Taylor to step in and stop the fight at 2:35 of the sixth round. Iriarte defended his WBA Continental Gold welterweight championship and moves to 10-0, 9 KOs. Myrthil drops to 17-3-1, 13 KOs.
