Big Time Boxing Puerto Rico Open Training Session

Training in an open-door session at the Universal Promotions Boxing Gym, Félix Parrilla (12-0, 10KOs), Abisael Cotto (10-0, 8KOs), Kiria Tapia (8-0, 1KOs) and Ángel Carranza (11-1, 8KOs) gave a preview of what the public will enjoy in a new edition of “Big Time Boxing Puerto Rico”, presented by Universal Promotions and Salita Promotions, to be held on Thursday, March 19 at the Coliseíto Pedrín Zorrilla in San Juan.

The main event of the card will be a 10-round fight for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Latino Featherweight Championship (126 pounds) between promising prospect Felix Parrilla and the experienced Jose Velasquez.

“I’m grateful to Universal Promotions and Salita Promotions for the opportunity they’re giving me to fight for the WBO Latino Championship,” said Parrilla. “We’re well prepared for this great challenge. I’ll give it my all to win that belt. This fight on March 19th will be a huge step toward qualifying and getting closer to a world title opportunity.”

In the semi-main event of the evening, Abisael Cotto will seek to conquer the WBO Global Jr. Lightweight (130 lbs) championship when he faces a great 10-round challenge against Derlyn Hernandez.

“This is one of my biggest dreams,” Cotto said. “Being able to fight in front of my home crowd for such an important championship is incredible. The preparation has been excellent. We continue to improve, adding new things and correcting mistakes. On March 19th, you’ll see my best.”

In another of the star fights, San Juan’s most beloved, Kiria Tapia, will have the most important test of her career, when she faces Ayanna Vásquez (7-1-1, 1KOs) in an eight-round super featherweight (130 lbs) bout.

“I’m thrilled to be fighting at home again,” Tapia said. “It’s an honor for me to represent San Juan and Puerto Rico every time I step into the ring. We’ve worked on a lot of things during this training camp with my trainer, Iván Calderón. I’ve been focused on fine-tuning my technique so I can perform at my best. We’re going to put on a great show this Thursday at the Pedrín Zorrilla.”

Highly regarded lightweight prospect (135 pounds), Angel Carranza, will clash in an eight-round bout against Ezequiel Palaversic.

“We’re ready to continue showing what we’re made of,” Carranza emphasized. “We’ve prepared very well for this fight. We continue to improve every day to achieve my goals. We’re going for a big win on March 19th.”

The fighters performed several rounds of shadowboxing, heavy bag work, speed bag work, and mitt work, making clear the importance of their respective commitments in “Big Time Boxing Puerto Rico”.

The fight card will feature a total of nine exciting bouts to delight sports fans.

Tickets for “Big Time Boxing Puerto Rico”, to be held on Thursday, March 19 at the Coliseíto Pedrín Zorrilla in San Juan, are on sale at PRTicket ( https://boletos.prticket.com/events/big-time ).

The event will be streamed live globally starting at 8:00 PM (ET) on DAZN.
