Angelo Peña Fights For Two Intercontinental Titles

0 2

The main event of the event „Boxen statt Theater“ on April 3 at the Opera in Bern, Switzerland, is taking on added significance. In addition to Angelo Peña’s WBO Intercontinental title, the vacant IBF Intercontinental super featherweight title is now also at stake. This means that the duel against Spain’s Salvador Jiménez will be an intercontinental title unification bout.

Peña, from Switzerland, with Dominican roots, training at the Salas Academy in Las Vegas is currently number 6 in the WBO world rankings. He is currently only listed in the intercontinental rankings of the IBF. A victory can move him up in two world rankings at the same time. With this fight, Peña wants to demonstrate his commitment to his goal of boxing Emanuel Navarrete for the world championship.

“The fact that the IBF has authorized us the vacant title for this fight underlines the sporting quality of the duel and brings additional international attention,” says promoter Leander Strupler, founder of Swiss Pro Boxing. “I don’t think any Swiss boxer has ever fought for two such important titles at the same time.”
