Tszyu To Return On April 5th, Before Spence Jr. Clash
Tim Tszyu 26-3 (18 KOs) is set to return to the ring when he takes on Albania’s Denis Nurja 20-0 (9 KOs) over 10 rounds at the WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia on Sunday, April 5.
The 31-year-old former WBO junior middleweight titleholder from Sydney has been linked to a bout against Texan southpaw Errol Spence Jr. 28-1 (22 KOs) in the northern summer. Spence Jr., a former WBC, WBA, and IBF welterweight champion, has not boxed since losing his belts to Terence Crawford in an undisputed clash three years ago.
Tszyu is in a rebuilding phase of his career after losing three of four fights between March 2024 and July of last year. He rebounded with a win under new coach Pedro Diaz in December when he pitched a 10-round shutout over previously undefeated American Anthony Velazquez 18-1-1 (15 KOs).
Nurja, 31, is something of an unknown quantity. His record is littered with largely unknown names, and he has only ever saddled up for one 10-round bout. That fight ended in the first round, and he has never been beyond six rounds.
Still, Tszyu says he expects Nurja to test him.
“He presents a challenge,” Tszyu told Fox Sports Australia. “Big amateur pedigree. Eight national titles. He’s fought at the world championships – IBA level.
“He’s been in there and mixed it with a lot of great fighters, so I’m motivated, inspired and focused.”
The same card will see former world title challenger Sam ‘The Ghost’ Goodman 21-1 (8 KOs) take on Rodrigo Ruiz 23-1 (17 KOs) of Argentina in a 12-round IBF super bantamweight eliminator.
