Tony Yoka To Remain French Citizen And A Professional Fighter

0 2

By Per-Åke Persson

French heavyweight Tony Yoka (15-3) has made it clear to L´Equipe that is to remain a French citizen and will not try and qualify for the Olympic Games 2028.

Yoka, Olympic Gold Medal winner in 2016, also states that he is looking for a rematch against Martin Bakole, who beat him in 2022 in what was his first loss as a pro. It was followed by losses to Carlos Takam and Ryad Merhy and seriously derailed his career.

Tony has since bounced back with two wins in 2024 and two more in 2025 and is now promoted by Queensberry.

The story that he would become a Congolese citizen and go for the Olympic Games in 2028 came after a recent visit to Congo where his father is from came in fact from the Congolese department for sports and recreation but appears to have been a misunderstanding.

Yoka will however work with Congolese boxers to help develop Olympic boxers.
