Cain Velasquez Released From California State Prison
By Gabriel F. Cordero
Former UFC champion Cain Velasquez was released from a California state prison on Sunday after serving 10 months of his sentence for attempted murder. He was convicted last year for the attempted murder of a man accused of sexually abusing his four-year-old son in 2022.
Velasquez was expected to be eligible for parole in March, but the date was moved up, and he is now at home.
Velasquez was arrested after a high-speed chase and gunfire. He was apprehended without resistance and charged with several offenses, which kept him in prison for eight months.
The prosecution sought a sentence of 30 years to life in prison for the former UFC champion, but the judge imposed a five-year sentence, which already included the time he had initially served.
Velasquez will be under supervision and will participate in a restitution hearing on March 18 to compensate the victims of the shooting.
Harry Goularte, the man accused of abusing Cain Velasquez’ son, faces other child abuse charges and was even arrested, but was released on bail and awaits trial at liberty.
