Fight Club OC Starts Off The Year With A Bang!

0 8

Fight Club OC brought in 2026 from the Hangar at the OC Fair & Events Center in Costa Mesa, CA on February 12th with 5 furious combat sports contests. As this was the inaugural card of the year, the fans in attendance knew that every fighter wanted to make tonight their night .

Opening the show was a 4 round, Super Welterweight clash in the discipline of boxing between Brooklyn’s Jahvad McDermott (1-0) in his pro debut taking on Solomon Colton (1-1-1 1KO) from Riverside. McDermott didn’t come 3000 miles to lose and he let Colton know that from the start. Both warriors came ready to mix it up, but the contest ended up being more tactical. Colton rushed McDermott throughout while McDermott found distance with his shots. While neither fighter unleashed a sustained torrent of blows, McDermott did more and that effort was rewarded with a 4 round decision in his first pro fight.

From there we transitioned to a 3 round MMA bout in the bantamweight class between Nika Sabanashvili (3-1-1) from Huntington Beach against Kamron Ortikov (7-2) from Sacramento. These mixed martial artists engaged in a very interesting contest that saw take downs, striking, and just about everything you want to see in an MMA bout. After the first, in which Sabanashvili punctuated it with an uppercut on Ortikov’s chin, Sabanashvili took care of business in the second with a very interesting armbar technique.

Switching back to boxing for the remainder of the card, fans were given a 6 round lightweight bout between up and coming Santa Ana star Johnny Canas (9-0 3KOs) vs. Durango, Mexico’s Jose Antonio Meza (9-12 2KOs). These fighters came to mix it up and Meza gave it a great effort. In fact, before this bout somebody in the production booth said there would be a knockout for Canas. He did score a knockdown in the first, but Meza composed himself and gave Canas a really tough fight. There were a lot of jabs from both contestants, but ultimately Canas edged his tough foe enough to take a decision.

Featherweight Jorge Ruiz (3-0 2KOs) from Compton took on Manuel Rojas (2-8-2 1KO) of Guadalajara, Mexico in a 4 round bout. These guys met in the center of the ring and basically went toe-to-toe for 4 stanzas. There was all kinds of action. From punches being thrown at a distance, to straight up brawling, but in every round Ruiz did just a little bit more and that was the difference. In the end, his work rate is what got him the decision of Rojas.

This night’s 4 round, Tequila Mandala Young Champions bout happened in the Super Lightweight ranks between Niguy Simms (3-1-1) from Compton vs. Clayton Hibbert (2-11 2KOs) from Long Beach. Simms and Hibbert engaged in a heated affair in which Simms “touched up” Hibbert in every round. Hibbert was game, fought hard, and even was knocked down (but it was more of a slip). In the end Simms took a well earned decision over the hard luck Hibbert.
