Veyre Tops Persoon for WBC Super Feather Title in Grand Rapids

0 6

French-born, Montreal resident Caroline Veyre overcame determined Belgian Delfine Persoon to snag the WBC super featherweight title Tuesday night in Grand Rapids, MI. The shorter Veyre was able to get inside and underneath the long reach of Persoon, to do her work. It wasn’t a pretty fight, as referee Benjamin Rodriguez deducted two points from each fighter: from Veyre in rounds five and nine for holding and from Persoon in rounds four and seven for hitting behind the head. Persoon for her part was vocal and physically demonstrative toward the ref, complaining vehemently about the tactics of Veyre. In the end, the judges saw it 98-88, 95-81 and 94-92, all for Veyre, who wins the belt vacated by former undisputed champion Alycia Baumgardner, who vacated the belt over the WBC’s rule prohibiting females from fight 12 rounds and 3-minute rounds. Baumgerdner subsequently defended her remaining belts against Canadian Leila Beaudoin over 12 x 3-minute rounds in December of 2025. Baumgardner previously met Persoon in September of 2024 for the undisputed titles at 130 lbs, only to have that fight end in a No Contest, due to a clash of heads, causing a bad cut on Persoon. Persoon is a former WBC & IBF lightweight world champion. Veyre is now 11-1, while Persoon is now 50-4, 20 KOs. The bout was promoted by Salita Promotions.
