Tomioka Defeats Nagao, Wins WBO AP 112lb Belt
By Joe Koizumi
WBO#12 Kosuke Tomioka (11-4, 8 KOs), 111.75, captured the WBO Asia Pacific flyweight belt as he outhustled rough-and-tumble defending champ WBO#4 Tomonori Nagao (11-3-2, 6 KOs), 111.75, to earn a unanimous decision (98-90, 95-93 twice) over ten heats on Tuesday in Tokyo, Japan. Decking the champ with a southpaw left counter in round two, Tomioka had a tough time coping with Nagao’s unorthodox hit-and-grab style but scored with more effective shots in earlier rounds. The second half wasn’t a fight but a Judo contest with onrushing Nagao penalized a point for his repeated head-butts. It’s the worst fight of the month ever witnessed at the Hall.
