Dana White and Zuffa Boxing have announced they are ready for their world debut on January 23 in Las Vegas with a main event featuring Callum Walsh against Mexican Carlos Ocampo.
White has insisted that it is highly unlikely his promotional company will offer fighters the opportunity to compete for WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF titles.
Walsh is the current WBC Continental Americas Champion, and by signing with Zuffa Boxing, it will be difficult for him to even challenge for the WBC world title.
“I am saddened by Walsh’s situation. He is the Continental Americas Champion, had many fights with the World Boxing Council, and like hundreds of other children and young people, being with Zuffa Boxing makes it difficult for him to compete for a WBC world championship. For example, we saw Dalton Smith defeat Subriel Matias last weekend, mentioning that it was a dream he’d had since he was six years old,” said Mauricio Sulaiman, the WBC president.
Sulaimán emphasized that he had spoken with Walsh on occasion and that Walsh’s desire was to become WBC champion, but now he is closer to not achieving that goal.
