Focus, Determination And Clear Statements: Granit Shala Confident At The Final Press Conference Before The Heavyweight Showdown
The countdown is on. Yesterday afternoon, the final press conference took place in Düsseldorf ahead of Saturday’s big fight night, headlined by the main event between Agit Kabayel and his challenger Damian Knyba. The co-main event features another German heavyweight, AGON boxer Granit Shala, who faces a crucial test against Croatian Petar Milas in a fight for the IBF International title.
Following Wednesday’s public training session, Shala appeared reflective, focused, and combative on the podium yesterday in front of numerous press representatives. Reflecting on his eventful past – marked by significant weight gain, the arduous path to the professional ranks, a major European Championship opportunity, and the painful setback of a defeat – the Landshut native made it clear how much these experiences have shaped him: “First of all, thank you to Queensberry, as well as to Agit and his entire team. I never used to believe in all those Rocky clichés. But when you’re down, you work even harder and want to prove yourself even more. I really gave it my all – and it shows. I’m fired up for Saturday and I want to win this fight.”
The absence of Petar Milas at the press conference also attracted attention. However, Shala remained unfazed and made his focus clear: “I don’t care whether he’s here or not. Hopefully he’ll be here on Saturday – that’s much more important. We’ve prepared very well and had top sparring partners throughout the holidays. While others were out celebrating, we were in the gym sparring. We’re extremely well prepared for our opponent. Bring on Saturday!”
Shala also openly addressed the mental pressure that comes with performing on one of Germany’s biggest boxing stages in recent years, and made it clear how his team deals with it: “Of course, it’s also a huge mental challenge. But my team and I completely transform this pressure into something positive. The fact that we now have such a big stage and such a big event in Germany is our motivation.”
Following the press conference, attention now turns to the next mandatory event of Fight Week: the official weigh-in is scheduled for today at 6:00 PM in Düsseldorf. It is the last formal step before the decisions are made in the ring on Saturday.
For Granit Shala, one thing is clear: the preparation is complete, the doubts are a thing of the past. Now he wants to show on fight night that the past years were not a burden, but his greatest motivation.
