Hard-punching Californian Anthony Olascuaga (11-1, 8 KOs), 111.25, successfully made his fourth defense of the WBO flyweight belt when he caught up with Japanese #4 Taku Kuwahara (14-3, 9 KOs), 112, pinned him to the ropes with a fusillade of punches to prompt the referee Robert Hoyle to declare a halt at 2:37 of the fourth round on Wednesday in Tokyo, Japan. Though Taku was expected to make his best use of vaunted footwork, he came out fighting toe-to-toe with the powerful champ, which was partly successful in round two. But it was Olascuaga that overpowered the challenger, weakened him with strong rights to the face and eventually scored a fine TKO victory. Kuwahara should have utilized his trademark footwork more to avert Olascuaga’s powerful shots rather than fight with his back to the ropes.

Promoter: Teiken Promotions.
