WBO 112lb Champ Olascuaga Predicts A KO Win Over Kuwahara
By Joe Koizumi
This reporter started watching boxing in 1957. I used to learn all names of all the world champions (though only eight at that time) by heart since childhood as a boy boxing-addict. Even until some years ago I tried to memorize all, but I have recently been knocked out by the wave of proliferation.
I cannot memorize all the names of super champions, regular champs, interim champs, champs in recess, champs emeritus etc. Every month we hear new names of champions, which is by far beyond my memory capacity. No mas.
But Anthony Olascuaga (10-1, 7 KOs), US, is a legitimate WBO flyweight champion, making his fourth defense against Japanese speedster Taku Kuwahara (14-2, 9 KOs) at Ryogoku Sumo Arena (Kokugikan) in Tokyo on December 17, next Wednesday. Anthony participated in a public workout at Teiken Gym to display his power punching cultivated by his long-time handlers Rudy Hernandez and Daisuke Okabe. Anthony, 26, confidently said, “For me this is the sixth visit to Japan, which is my second home country. I’ll knock out my challenger Taku Kuwahara without doubt. Anthony has well-reputed power punching, but Taku has a high-speed bicycle. It may become a Tom-and-Jerry game like Mantequilla Napoles vs. Hedgemon Lewis first in 1971.
This world title tripleheader will be promoted by Akihiko Honda of Teiken Promotions. How many world title bouts has Honda produced this year? He might surpass Don King’s yearly record.
