WBC#13 Kawamitsu Halts Noda, Regains Japan’s 108lb Belt
By Joe Koizumi
Former national champ WBC#13 Toshiki Kawamitsu (12-2, 8 KOs; amateur 35-15), 107.5, impressively regained his Japanese light flyweight belt as he repeated his victory over Kenshi Noda (7-4, 4 KOs; amateur 45-16), 107.5, via fine stoppage at 0:50 of the fourth round on Tuesday in Tokyo, Japan. Kawamitsu forfeited his belt to Kyosuke Takami, who surprisingly dethroned unbeaten WBA ruler Erik Rosa by a tenth round TKO this July. Toshiki took the initiative from the outset and kept stalking him despite his absorption of punishment, piling up points. The fourth witnessed Kawamitsu lopsidedly pin him to the ropes with a flurry of punches, which quickly prompted the referee’s intervention.
Former WBA junior middleweight champ Koichi Wajima’s grandson Taishin Isotani (10-3, 6 KOs), 147, retained his Japan’s youth welter belt by a unanimous decision (79-73 twice, 77-75) over Ryoma Yamamoto (5-3, 5 KOs; amateur 14-2), 146.75, over eight. Taishin is a talented six-footer, but may need more experience and sophistication.
Promoter: Misako Promotions.
