Final Day of 2025 USA Boxing National Open
The 2025 USA Boxing National Open concluded on Saturday inside the Arvest Convention Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, wrapping up six days of competition. The event served as the third national event hosted by USA Boxing in 2025. On the final day of competition, the Junior, Youth and Elite divisions were finalized for all male and female brackets. The day six USA Boxing recap is presented by Rosetta Stone, USA Boxing’s official partner for language learning.
Throughout Saturday’s finals competition, there were 51 bouts conducted across two rings, all of which were championship bouts. The Junior females led off the action on day six with five bouts, followed by 13 Junior male bouts. The Youth division was concluded next with five female bouts and 10 male bouts. The Elite divisions rounded out the day with eight female bouts and 10 male bouts to close out yet another successful week within the organization.
Among the 51 tournament champions crowned on day six, Yahya Metts (Cincinnati, Ohio) wrapped up a successful tournament with a 5-0 win in the Junior male 145 lbs. bracket. The win marked the third of the tournament for Metts and his first unanimous decision of the week.
“It means a lot because six nationals in a row, I’ve been to the championship, and it’s always the same guy that I’ve lost to,” Metts stated after winning his championship bout. “This time, I bring it back home to my city. It felt good to win this Nationals, and I’m looking to do the same in December!”
Sage Rosario (Manhattan, Kan.) added another title to her belt with a third-round stoppage in her Elite female 154 lbs. bout. Rosario is making a name for herself within the sport and once again asserted her dominance with her third victory of the week and her second stoppage of the tournament. “This one was really special to me,” Rosario reflected after earning her title on Saturday. “Right now, I’m looking to get onto the Elite team and prove that I’m the best in the country. I’m going to become the greatest female fighter ever, and I just can’t wait to show everybody!”
Edgar Herrera Jr. (Lubbock, Texas) captured his title in the Elite male 110 lbs weight division with a masterful 5-0 win. The victory marked the second of the week for the Hub City native, who earned a first-round bye. Herrera closed out the tournament with two unanimous decisions on his way to the title. “That felt good. I’m just coming off of a surgery, just coming off of a loss in Vegas, so I felt more fueled up than ever,” Herrera noted of his championship victory. “In December, I’m coming! I’ve gotta go get that,” he noted of the 2025 USA Boxing National Championships being hosted in his hometown. USA Boxing will host one more national event in 2025, the National Championships, which will be hosted in Lubbock, Texas, from December 6 to 13.
