WBA#4 Takeshi Ishii (11-1, 8 KOs), a former kick-boxing titlist at 105, retained his OPBF minimumweight belt when he outhustled Filipino ex-WBO AP champ Jake Amparo (16-8-1, 4 KOs), 104, to pound out a unanimous decision (98-91 twice, 99-90) over ten hard-fought rounds on Tuesday in Tokyo, Japan. The short but sturdy Ishii, 25, controlled the fight all the way, and scored a decisive knockdown in the tenth and final session. He is gunning for a world title shot in the near future since he technically improved well after his sole setback to tricky Filipino Lito Dante two years ago.
Promoter: Ohashi Promotions.
