MVP Prelim Results From Orlando

0 5

Lady light flyweights Jocelyn Camarillo and Agustina Vazquez opened the show in Orlando tonight in a four-round scrap. Camarillo showed her skill level in handily beating the more experienced Vazquez over the distance. Camarillo remained undefeated by scores of 40-36 and 39-37 twice to move to 5-0, while Vazquez goes sub .500 at 4-5-2.

Female superfly Natalie Dove returned from the first blemish on her career, a draw back in May, to finish tough Randee Lynn Morales, via referees stoppage at 1:50 of the fifth round in a scheduled six round fight. Dove had everything going her way as her precision and work rate were too much from Morales, prompting referee Luis Pabon save Morales from further punishment. Dove moves to 6-0-1, 2 KOs, while Morales falls to 5-6, 3 KOs.
Former World title Challenger Jamaine Ortiz came in 3.5 lb over the contracted 140 lb limit against Ambiorix Bautista, who was in his first fight outside of his native Dominican Republic.
Both fighters entered the contest with nearly identical 19-2 records, (Ortiz also has a draw). But The level of opposition was vastly different between the two. Ortiz was originally slated to face fellow former title challenger Steve Claggett, and perhaps experienced a bit of a mental letdown against Bautista.
After a pedestrian first round, Ortiz started letting both hands go in the second, snapping Bautista’s head back on more than one occasion. In the third, a combination to the head dropped Bautista to a kneeling position, while he also favored his left hand which he injured as he landed it on Ortiz’ hip.
A follow-up barrage to the body dropped Bautista again, forcing referee Alicia Collins to wave it off at 1:32 of the third round. Ortiz moves to 20-2-1, 10 KOs while Bautista falls to 19-3, 11 KOs.
Female WBA superfly weight champion Jasmine Artiga came out like a juggernaut in the first round against challenger Linn Sandstrom. The taller southpaw Artiga, used her size and stance advantage to continue pressing Sandstrom.
Finally, a barrage along the ropes saw Sandstrom not answering back, forcing referee Massimo Montanini to step in to rescue Sandstrom at 1:01 of the third, Artiga defending her title for the first time. She’s now 14-0-1, 7 KOs.  Sandstrom slides to 10-4-3, 2 KOs.
