Men’s Captain’s Weekly News 4th August 2025
Hi Gents,
As always in golf, good things happen as well as bad and so we were delighted to see Colin Meister return a fantastic 46 points to win last Thursday’s Roll Up by a distance. Rumour has it that he had several 3 putts in the round which was the equivalent of a 62 nett. Peter Myers too made a welcome appearance on the winners’ podium too while an emotional Tony Flanagan, who has been “through the mill” recently, won Saturdays Ranking in great style. Max Meggitt, 16 years old and thus ineligible to win a prize, brought in a score of 40 points (71 gross) in Thursday’s Roll Up despite slicing his tee shots at the 10th and 12th OB!
The results of the Roll Ups and the Ranking are:-
TUESDAY
Winner. PAUL CHARLES (39 points)
Second. DAVID WAITE (38)
Third. PETER YEOMAN (38)
Fourth. MICHAEL KEANE (37)
NP. Julian Menashe
2s. Phil Fisher
THURSDAY
Winner. COLIN MEISTER (46 points)
Second. DAVID STEELE (39)
Third. DAVID TYLER (37)
Fourth. PETER MYERS (37)
NP. Luis Ayuso
2s. Ian Wright
RANKING
Winner. TONY FLANAGAN (39 points)
Second. PAUL INGEBRIGTSEN (39)
Third. MATT CHARLESWORTH (38)
Fourth. DAVID TYLER (38)
At this time, David Tyler is leading the Ranking overall with 50 points closely followed by Joachim Friedl (48), Mike Cowburn (45) and Paul Weigall (43).
I have had a number of adverse comments about the non raking of bunkers and failure to repair pitch marks on the greens. While I’m sure that this is not the fault of the vast bulk of the membership, nevertheless we can all be vigilant in regard to this if only because if you’re good to the course, it’ll be good to you!
Can I renew my request in last weeks newsletter not to message me or Patrick O’Sullivan re Roll Up requests?
Please use the comments section in the App when enrolling or as a second option send an email to mwmcomp@sanroqueclub.com
Also, please do not ask to play with someone unless you know for certain that he is going to play or that he has not already agreed to play with someone else.
Please note that the Roll Ups on Tuesday August 12th and Thursday 14th will be played off the 63s to prepare us for the Club Championship which will take place on the 16th and 17th.

Golf Question of the month:-
In a match between A & B, A has played 3 strokes and B has holed out in 4. A putts and his ball apparently comes to rest but is overhanging the hole. After only 5 seconds, B picks up A’s ball and hands it to him. What is the ruling?
- A wins the hole
- B wins the hole.
- The hole is halved.
Answer in my next newsletter.
