Gentlemen

Just the three competitions this week and largely played under some bright sunshine. After a busy start to the beginning of January with a lot of members here, this week’s entries seem to have dropped a little. Maybe seeking sunshine in other parts of the world.

MEN’S Competition Tuesday January 21st

Sun beckoned 29 players to the fairways of San Roque for the regular Tuesday event. Scoring and particularly putting were difficult with the greens ruining at 11.2. An opportunity for the cream to rise to the top with only two players scoring better than their handicap. Noel Smith and the Captain being divided by handicap with 38 points. I must have a word with Noel as not sure this is protocol!!

Results

1 st – Noel Smith- 38 pts
2 nd – Gary Ward – 38 pts on Hcp
3 rd – Patrick O’Sullivan – 35 pts
4 th – Joachim Friedl – 35 pts on Hcp & Back 9

Nearest the Pin – Johan Bjarnle
2’s – Noel Smith, Frank Breuer, David Macgregor & Jim Jenet
Tissue – Andy Stanford

MIXED Competition Thursday January 23rd

The monthly mixed competition took place with 40 players participating. Not sure what everybody had for breakfast as the scoring was amazing. Who would think that 40 points would only get you 5th place. David MacGregor won the day with a gross 69 which included two double bogeys. I should also mention one of the juniors, Javier Ybarra Gallagher, who had 43 points playing off 9 and shot a gross 74. This could be a formidable match for these two in the future! I should mention that Tammy Breuer was the best of the Ladies with 36 points which, due to the good scoring, managed to get her 7th place. Andy Stanford went from tissue on Tuesday to 2nd place today.

Results

1 st – David MacGregor- 42 pts
2 nd – Andy Stanford – 41 pts
3 rd – Johan Bjarnle – 40 pts
4 th – Paul Ingebrigtsen – 40 pts on Hcp

Nearest the Pin

Ladies Sally Tierney Men Dan Bannister
2’s – Derek Whelan & David MacGregor x2
Tissue – Roger Griffiths

Monthly Medal sponsored by VinoMarket

Many thanks as usual to Richard Bell-Young of Vinomarket for their continued sponsorship of the Monthly Medal. With a relatively small field of 24 players scoring was very good with 5 over par only getting 9th place. It’s been a tough school at San Roque this week. Today ́s medal being no exception with three players tied at one over par and the winner decided on Handicap. Congratulations to Josh Hunter with an excellent gross 76 playing off 3 handicap.

Result

1 st – Josh Hunter – +1
2 nd – Francis Payne – +1 on Hcp
3 rd – Noel Smith – +1 on Hcp
4 th – Johan Bjarnle – +2
5 th – Andy Stanford – +2 on Hcp who also won the card draw sponsored by Vinomarket.

Admin Points

Pitch Marks – please repair them. There has recently been an upsurge in the number not being repaired.
Cancellations – It is fully understood that unexpected situations arise that cause a cancellation. Once the start sheet has been sent out, redoing the start can be done but quite often affects everybody. Please be aware of the extra work involved and the effect is having on your fellow members.
