Men´s Captain´s Weekly News 25th November 2024
Gentlemen
A busy week of golf for the Men with ACL matches, which are the final gampoints, this year’s league, two midweek competitions and a Medal at the weekend plus a special presentation to Jenny and George Lamb..
MEN’S Competition Tuesday November
19th With 32 players participating in the Tuesday competition 35 points would only put you in 12th place. After a few weeks of difficult scoring this Tuesday seems to have bucked the trend. Paul Cambridge finished in 5th place on handicap with 37 points but the winner Jim Jenet had a great round of 40 points pipping Francis Marjoribanks on handicap. David Macgregor finished in all the categories except the tissue.

MIXED Competition Thursday November 21ST
The Monthly Mixed competition took place with 35 players starting but due to injury only 33 finishing!! After Tuesday’s good scoring the course decided to
take a small amount of revenge. Apart from our Junior Eduardo Ybarra Gallagher, who scored 38 points, nobody else broke their handicap. So, with 36 points Simon Sutcliffe picked up the winner’s prize. With a score of 35 points the in-form Francis Marjoribanks took second place on handicap from Judith Lamb.
Results
1st – Simon Sutcliffe – 38 pts
2nd – Francis Marjoribanks – 35 pts
3rd – Judith Lamb – 35 pts on Hcp
4th – Andrew Lewis – 34 pts
Not too many stayed to collect their prizes, so we decided to do a couple of shots (photographs) in the bar of those that did stay!!
MEN’S ACL Match AWAY v Villa Padierna November 18th
The final three matches of the ACL started at Villa Padierna. Playing on the Alferini course is a challenge so home advantage was always going to play a
part. Needing some good results to move up the table we did not start as well as we could have hoped. A competitive game saw us the wrong side of the
results in a few games and the final scores was 11-7 in favour of Villa Padierna. We moved on to our next game at La Quinta. The Monthly Mixed competition took place with 35 players starting but due to injury only 33 finishing!
MEN’S ACL Match AWAY v La Quinta Friday November 22nd
This was the match from earlier in the month that was postponed due to bad weather. An early start at La Quinta saw the team up bright and early. La Quinta were keen to lift themselves off the bottom of the table whilst SR were equally competitive to obtain an excellent result away from home which is always more difficult. The good news is that SR made a significant improvement compared to our Villa Padierna result and won 11-7. Well played team and we moved on to the Home Match versus Villa Padierna.
MEN’S ACL Match HOME v Villa Padierna Monday November 22nd
The final match of the season which would go a long way to determine our final position. We needed a resounding win to climb above Guadalmina who were in
third place. We were under some pressure to get the 14½ points to secure that place and keep the teams of Atalaya and El Paraiso behind us. Our victory against Villa Padierna by 9½ – 8½ was by the smallest margin which puts us under threat to slide further down the table. On November 28 the final games will be played for Atalaya and El Paraiso and we wish their opponents the best of luck!!
MEN’S MONTHLY MEDAL sponsored by Vinomarket and Richard Bell-Young on Saturday November 23rd
Many thanks to Richard for his continued sponsorship of the Monthly Medal and to Michael Keane for taking care of proceedings. A relatively small field for this
month’s Medal but the continued good form of one player shone through again. With two victories already in the Monthly Ranking, Matt Charlesworth, with a net 73 was victorious in this months Medal. Unfortunately, the medal was not available but some new ones are on order!!
Results
1st – Matt Charlesworth – 73
2nd – David Macgregor – 74
3rd – Alistair Locke – 74 on Hcp
4th – Andy Macauley – 75 on Hcp
Jenny and George Lamb
On Saturday, our President Stephen Dundas made a well-deserved presentation to George and Jenny Lamb. The Lamb family have been a vital part of the San Roque Club, offering steadfast and generous support to both the staff and various charities over the years. In recognition of their contributions, the club has made George and Jenny Honorary Members and renamed the Mixed Foursomes competition as Mixed Foursomes George and Jenny Lamb Trophy. You will often see George and Jenny playing nine holes early in the morning. They are an inspiration to us all that golf can be played no matter how young you are. George is 92 years young, and Jenny is… well I can’t really say! Congratulations George and Jenny
